GUJRANWALA: The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Sheikh Sarwat Ikram, Vice President Muhammad Saeed Butt and 13 other Executive Members have been barred due to promulgation of Secretary Commerce’s decision. The writ against this decision filed in the Lahore High Court by the then GCCI President Khalid Chadha was withdrawn and the stay order against this decision became ineffective.
The decision said that 15 members of the Executive Committee, enjoying a second consecutive year, will be dismembered and election of all 30 seats will be conducted. The founder group approached the LHC against the decision of Secretary Commerce and got a stay order.
Due to this relief, elections of only 15 seats of the Executive Committee were held in September which chose new office bearers of the GCCI. Currently, GCCI President Sarwat Ikram and Vice President Muhammad Saeed Butt also fall in the category of old Executive Committee members and are not allowed to continue the office.
