According to the United Nations standards there should be at least 230 police officials for every 100,000 people in a country.
In Pakistan we have 128 police officers for every 100,000 people. This displays a serious lack and perhaps thats the reason why the crime rate is high in some cities. A ban was placed on police recruitment in 1993 that further aggravated the problem, but this government has lifted the ban but the recruitment hasnt started yet.
There is a fifty percent police personnel shortage in every district and thats the reason why when the need arises they are called from other districts to serve. Many of the areas are without police stations and that provides an opportunity to the criminals to roam freely. I request the government to start the recruitment of police once again, so that the gap can be filled and our cities are secured.
