LAHORE: Lahore Bar Association (LBA) on Wednesday refused to accept the grant of Rs five million recommended and sanctioned by former Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice (CJ) Khwaja Mohammad Sharif for LBA and its members who suffered injuries and humiliation at the hands of police during the crackdown on Aiwan-e-Adl on October 1st.
LBA decided this in its cabinet meeting headed by LBA President Sajid Bashir in Aiwan-e-Adl committee room. After the meeting LBA Secretary Qassam Hassan Buttar told Pakistan Today, “Cabinet has unanimously decided this by keeping in view the dignity of bar and prestige of lawyers.” On Monday, former LHC CJ had recommended and sanctioned the payment of grant of Rs 2 million for the LBA and Rs 3 million for its members.
In this regard, LBA on Tuesday received intimation from Punjab Advocate General office that two cheques from LHC CJ have been received and LBA president should receive these cheques from the said office. After receiving the news, LBA held a meeting of its cabinet and unanimously decided not to receive both the cheques.
