ISLAMABAD: The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has refused to brief the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence on the US’ reported intention to expand drone attacks to Quetta and the latest position of the war against terrorism, a source told Pakistan Today on Wednesday.
Directing the Ministry of Defence to organise a special briefing for committee members at the ISI Headquarters, the committee in its recent meeting had asked the ISI director general (DG) to give a detailed briefing on how the national institution was playing its role in the war against terrorism.
The parliamentary body also had sought an ISI briefing on drone attacks, their purported expansion to Balochistan and the involvement of CIA in the war on terror inside Pakistan. Pakistan Today contacted Azra Pucheheo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Defence, for her comment but her phone was switched off.
Another member of the body, asking not to be named, confirmed the information but refused to go into details. Pakistan Today also tried to contact ISPR DG Athar Abbas for his comment but the phone calls went unattended.
Meanwhile, the standing committee in its meeting on Wednesday discussed The Carriage by Air Bill, 2010.
