Warraich accuses PML-N of putting Punjab on sale

LAHORE: State Minister for Communications and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich on Tuesday accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of putting Punjab on sale and distributing public-sector educational institutions amongst party leaders and loyalists.
He made these remarks in a press conference at the Lahore Press Club along with PPP Punjab Secretary General Samiullah Khan, Information Secretary Dr Fakharuddin Chaudhry, Finance Secretary Aurangzeb Shaafi Barki, party leaders Dr Hasnat Shah, Iqbal Sialvi and others. The minister said that PML-N workers were being appointed TMOs at tehsil councils, coordinators and administrators in various towns by the Punjab government and the PPP would a raise against this in the Punjab Assembly.
Warraich said that PPP district information secretaries had expressed concerns over appointing PML-N workers and stalwarts to lucrative posts. The minister told journalists that the PPP had started a public contact movement in Punjab under which workers conventions would be held at 18 divisional locations in the province. The PPP Punjab president said that the first convention in this regard would be held at Dera Ghazi Khan or any other city of southern Punjab.
Warraich said that all district information secretaries have been directed to complete the information network at the tehsil level within one month and establish liaisons with the print and electronic media. He said that the PPP was against distribution of funds on political grounds and the Punjab government should appoint apolitical people in local government departments.
The minister said that the PML-N had itself accepted that the Sasti Roti Scheme had failed and now roti was being sold at Rs 6 in the province. He said that although there were PPP ministers in the Punjab cabinet but the provincial government did not belong to the PPP. Warraich vowed to continue pointing out the wrong doings of the Punjab government.
The PPP leader refused to comment on Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah’s statement in which he termed Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and Federal Law Minister Senator Dr Babar Awan as “satans” and called it a foolish statement.
