MUMBAI: When it comes to mimicry, Sunny Deol is one of the most popular targets whether on comedy shows or radio stations. But this may not continue for long. Bollywood’s true-blue action hero has decided to take action against people trying to gain quick publicity out of impersonating him.
So less than a month after Amitabh Bachchan decided to copyright his characteristic baritone, Sunny Doel plans to follow his footsteps. “I was unaware that such a copyright exists”, says Sunny. “I have nothing against people imitating my voice. But then they should know their limits. What upsets me is when they cross the line”.
Interestingly everyone from Sunny, Bobby and Dharmendra have cracked jokes on themselves in ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ spoofing some of their trademark antics. Sunny handles the hand-pump once again post ‘Gadar’ but to more funny outcome and Bobby doesn’t dare enter the action when Sunny and Dharmendra are fighting with the goons. The best part is when all three of them dance to the title track, which was one of the most popular songs of Dharmendra highlighting his distinctive dance movements. “It’s better to laugh on yourself than to laugh on others”, says Sunny. “I only lose it when they hit below the belt”.
Sunny is clearly referring to the spoof that a radio station did on him and his father Dharmendra that didn’t go down well with him. Last year Sunny Deol even slapped a legal notice on the radio station asking for compensation damage of Rs 200 crores.
Presently busy with the dubbing and promotion of the family film ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’, Sunny will look into the copyright aspect once his film releases on January 14, 2011. ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ which brings together the entire male Deol clan and promises great camaraderie between Sunny, Bobby and Dharmendra will be the first big release of the new year.
