ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court bench on Tuesday issued notice to the Petroleum Ministry’s director general (DG) for using contemptuous language against the litigations pending in court.
The bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday was hearing a petition by Jamaat-e-Islami former chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad against the government’s move to purchase its sold assets from British Petroleum at exorbitant prices.
The court grilled the Petroleum Director General Sher Muhammad Khan, who appeared on notice, and asked why he should not be held in contempt for undermining the court. The court directed the petroleum secretary to submit a report prepared in 2002 by former petroleum minister Usman Aminuddin on British Petroleum’s assets.
