Quick justice a priority: IHC CJ

LAHORE: Providing speedy justice to aggrieved parties has been my priority as a Lahore High Court (LHC) judge and I would continue the same as the Islamabad High Court (IHC) chief justice, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman said on Tuesday.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Justice Rehman said that he would make efforts for providing justice to his fellow countrymen. He said that ever since becoming a judge, the court has been a worship place for him and by providing justice to people on merit, he was doing God’s work, which He had assigned to him during this lifetime.
The judge said that he would assume office hopefully next week after all legal formalities were completed in this regard. Justice Rehman belonged to a family which has been associated with the legal profession since generations. His father Justice Hamoodur Rehman was the chief justice of Pakistan and appointed a Supreme Court (SC) judge in 1960.
He was also appointed the chairman of the commission, which was constituted to inquire about the causes of the fall of Dhaka in 1971 and the Pakistan Army’s role in this regard. Born in Dhaka in 1956, Justice Rehman completed his primary education at the Saint Anthony’s High School, Lahore after his family settled in the provincial metropolis after Justice Hamood’s appointment as a SC judge.
Justice Rehman did Matric from the Saint Anthony’s and joined the Government College, Lahore from which he completed Intermediate in 1973 and graduation in 1975. He completed LLB from the Punjab University Law College in 1980 and obtained a diploma in labour laws from the same institution. Justice Rehman was enrolled as an advocate in the Punjab Bar Council in 1981 and started his career as a practicing lawyer at district and civil courts in Lahore.
He became a high court advocate in 1983 and started contesting both civil and criminal cases. Justice Rehman was enrolled as a SC advocate in 1997 and the following year was elected as the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) secretary.
