LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Food Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday assured the House that the government was committed to resolving all issues relating to price hike and law and order.
The ministers said this in separate speeches while winding up the ‘General Discussions on Price Hike of Essential Commodities’ and ‘General Discussion on Law and Order’ pending from the last session ending in the last week of October.
Sanaullah said the energy crises and terrorism were the root cause of all problems being faced by the country especially relating to law and order and price hike. He said the energy crisis meant closure of factories and industries causing unemployment and economic frustration. He said he did not blame anyone but “those creating hurdles in the way of the elected governments are the responsible for this”.
He also informed the House that the government was doing its best to overcome the problems, adding that comprehensive planning was underway in this regard.
Sanaullah said criticism was not a joke as one should realise that police was not capable of countering terrorism, adding that the government was training the police to be at par with the Elite Police Force. The provincial minister for food said the government wanted to facilitate farmers and growers.
He dispelled the impression that the government was not aware of the problems faced by the agriculture sector. Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Chaudhry Zaheer criticised the treasury saying that in 2010 alone 33 incident of terrorism were registered in Punjab that claimed 287 lives.
He also said the ratio of crime against women had also reached an alarming level.
