LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), as part of its preparations for the upcoming local government (LG) elections, has started restructuring its Punjab chapter, Pakistan Today has learnt. State Minister of Communications and newly-appointed PPP Punjab President Chaudhry Imtiaz Safdar Warraich in order to organise party workers and stalwarts, has summoned the PPP Punjab Executive Council meeting on Friday at the party provincial secretariat at Faisal Town, Lahore.
According to sources, the meeting would finalise the strategy for organising the party at the district level. Sources claimed that important decisions about the party’s restructuring were expected to be made and recommendations of the executive council regarding reshuffling the party hierarchy at the provincial level would also be considered.
According to sources, Warraich had intensions to reshuffle the party’s provincial ranks as well as district office bearers on performance basis. Sources said that the state minister had told journalists that restructuring would be done with consultations and the executive council meeting was an important step in this regard.
Meetings of various divisions of the party have been scheduled for interacting with workers and leaders and according to sources Warraich had arranged his activities keeping in view the party’s reorganising agenda. According to sources, the PPP Punjab president had fixed Tuesday and Wednesday for meeting PPP Punjab office bearers while on Thursday he would continue his ministerial duties. On Friday and Saturday, the minister would hold the executive council meeting and interact with Lahore chapter office bearers.
According to sources, Warraich who was also the PPP Gujranwala president would meet Bahawalpur chapter office bearers and Multan chapter office bearers on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. President Asif Ali Zardari was furious over PPP’s dismal performance in Punjab and resignation of former PPP Punjab president Rana Aftab was result of the president’s anger. Warraich had said that he was being sent to organise party and regain its lost glory. The minister said that he would not leave any stone unturned in this regard.
