Seminaries will protest if blasphemy laws amended

KARACHI: Leaders of different religious seminaries have threatened a mass movement against any amendment in the blasphemy law at a press conference in the Wafaq-ul-Madaris Al-Arabia (WMA) office on Sunday.
WMA President Maulana Salimullah Khan said the forum of religious seminaries would be the first to launch a movement for the protection of the blasphemy law. “Islam provides protection to the minorities but does not permit anybody to disrespect the Holy Prophet (pbuh),” he said adding that any changes in the law would be taken as disrespect towards the religious sentiments of Muslims.
“Anarchy will prevail if the blasphemy law is changed,” said Jamia Binori Town’s Dr Abdul Razzaq Sikandar. Mohammad Akram Toofani demanded the immediate removal of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer for declaring the blasphemy law as a black rule.
Jamia Ashraful Madaris’ Hakim Mohammad Mazhar, Maulana Asad Thanvi, Abdul Karim Aabid and others also spoke on the occasion.
