LAHORE: It is not yet clear whether former Test captain Javed Miandad would be available as Pakistan team’s batting consultant or not. Reports coming from PCB sources say that Miandad has not yet replied to the Board’s letter and his availability for the national training camp for New Zealand tour is still not certain.
PCB had asked Miandad to work as a batting consultant with the team, but at the same time it had put forth some conditions for the batting great. The conditions require Miandad to work under head coach Waqar Younis and share his plans for the team with Younis.
These conditions have been rejected by Miandad, hence the uncertainty. Even team manager Intikhab Alam has no clue about the issue. “I really don’t know the situation about Miandad because the Board is in contact with him,” Alam said. Alam said Younis would reach Lahore from Australia to join the camp on Wednesday.
“He (Younis) will be there in the camp to supervise things as he is the head coach. If Miandad is available, it would be beneficial for the players as he is an experienced pro and a great batsman,” Alam said.
Alam said a lot of emphasis during the camp would be on fielding since it is the team’s weak point. The manager said there was more discipline in the team and the players were responding to the hard work put in by the coaches.
