ISLAMABAD: A six-member Special Bench of the Supreme Court headed by chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will take up today (Monday) a suo motu case against the irregularities and corruption in Haj arrangements.
Religious Affairs Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi and Science and Technology Minister Azam Khan Swati, the attorney general, secretaries of Interior, Establishment, Religious Affairs, the FIA director general, the NAB chairman, the members of committee of parliamentarians and all private tour operators will appear on notice to explain the allegations.
Kazmi will submit his reply rebutting corruption charges leveled against him while Swati will furnish evidence to prove the allegations leveled on Kazmi. The religious affairs secretary would file record of the names of the members of the committee which was responsible for hiring buildings in Mecca during haj.
The secretary would also state what haj policy for the year 2010 was including the grant of the licenses/quotas to tour operators. The NAB chairman would submit a report stating whether any case, under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999, was pending inquiry or trial before the court of law.
He would also submit a progress report against former haj DG Rao Shakeel Ahmed.
