LAHORE: Western cold waves entering Pakistan would mostly affect Gilgit-Baltistan and other mountainous areas while weather was expected to remain dry for the coming three days.
According to weather experts, the waves would not affect Punjab and no rainfall was expected in the next three days. A thin fog layer has started surrounding Lahore, as the year comes to an end. Talking to Pakistan Today, Met Office DFO Muhammad Amjad said, “November is the driest month of the year and this year it was even drier, as the measured rainfall was less than 6 millimetres”.
Amjad said that dryness would increase in the coming days and the temperature was expected to fall slowly but steadily. Quoting an example he said, “It was 8 degrees Celsius three days ago but on Sunday the recorded temperature of Lahore was 6.5 degrees Celsius”.
He said that a fall in the temperature by 1.5 degrees Celsius in four days clearly explained the situation. Separately, influenza and cold cases were increasing alarmingly. Jinnah Hospital’s Dr Ayesha Sheikh blamed the increase in dryness for surfacing of cold cases. “The spread of influenza and common colds on a larger scale depends on the weather conditions. The probability of catching such diseases falls when a downpour occurs”, she added.
