Clerics want govt to leave Aasia matter to the courts

LAHORE: Milli Majlis-e- Shariah forum of clerics from different sects, has warned the government that they would strongly resist any move to procedurally change the Blasphemy Law. Leaders of Milli Majlis ask the government to leave the Aasia Bibi issue on courts instead of poking its nose in judicial matters.
They said that the governor of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer has committed contempt of court and blasphemy also by visiting Aasia bibi in jail. In a joint press conference, the clerics demanded to end the discretionary powers of president of Pakistan.
They said, the president has no moral authority to forgive the punishment of any condemned prisoner. If law even permit him to do so this power should be withheld. Especially in cases of 295-C or Hadood cases. Maulana Mufti Muhammad Khan Qadri, Hafiz Akif Saeed, Dr Fareed Peracha, Maulana Zahid-ur-Raashidi, Muhammad Saddique Hazarvi, Hafiz Abudur Rehman Madni and Maulana Abd-ul-Maalik was present at this occasion.
The clerics condemned all terrorist activities whether at public places, shrines or any other sacred religious places. The clerics at the
same time pleaded that the governor brake the shackles of USA and other secular forces.
