LAHORE: Provinces would be benefited by the implementation of Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST), and issues with the tax can be negotiated, Lahore School of Economics Rector Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhary said on its Eighth Convocation held at the Burki Campus on Saturday.
The rector said the RGST issue had been politicized because the lion’s share would end up with Punjab – but the matter could be resolved. The Convocation Ceremony was held to confer degrees to around 1000 students belonging to varied disciplines of BBA (Hons), BSc (Hons), MBA, Msc, MPhil and MS. Students who got positions in their respective subjects received the Gold Medals from the Deans of their faculty.
Parents of the graduated students looked on proud of their children and their faces glowed with honour. LSE Rector Dr Shahid Amjad Chaudhry was the chief guest of the occasion as the Governor House cancelled Salman Taseer’s visit to the LSE at the last minute. When the announcer said the Governor was not coming, the students roared with joy.
Hooting and shouting continued during the whole ceremony, as the students wanted to make the most out of their graduation day. The Rector of LSE highlighted how the institution has evolved in a short span of time to a renowned center of learning producing alumni that possess highest professional acumen and academic knowledge.
He said that the institution uses research based learning and also stresses equally on the importance of extra-curricular activities. Rector of the LSE also said that the institution uses research based learning and with equal stress on extra-curriculars. He further said praised the institutes role in flood relief activities.
He said that the faculty members of the institute donated their one day salary to the flood victims and now the students were also working to build the house in the affected areas. He said that it’s an honor for him to preside the ceremony on behalf of the Governor of Punjab. He further said that Pakistan’s economy can go through the current financial crises by using its resources.
Asim Nawaz got Gold Medal in the Master of Business administration (MBA) in 2009 session whereas Imtiaz Hassan got the same prize in MBA executive in the class of 2009. Amjad Iqbal and Usman Pervez also got the Gold Medals in MBA and MBA executive respectively in the class of 2010.
Sehrish Nisar, Maryum Niazi and Fatima Liaquat received Gold Medals in the different subjects of Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) including marketing and finance etc, whereas Asha Gul got the Gold Medal in Bsc Economics. Mishal Saleem received the same Medal for the outclass performance in the Msc class of 2010.
