CM announces plan to set up Sasta Bazaars

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has announced to set up model Sasta Bazaars in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur for providing quality meat, fruits, vegetables and daily use items to the people at one place.
He directed Secretary Industries to submit a final plan with regard to setting up model Sasta bazaars within one week and the work should be started on the project immediately. “This project will be expanded to other cities of the province soon,” he added.
He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding the setting up of Sasta Bazaars today. MNAs Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, Mian Marghoob Ahmad, MPA Mian Mohsin Latif, Secretary Industries, Commissioner Lahore, DCO Lahore and concerned officers attended the meeting. Secretary Industries gave detailed briefing on model Sunday Bazaars of Islamabad and Sunday Bazaars in the province.
Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the life of poor people has become miserable in the present era of price-hike and provision of relief to them is a right. He said that the work on the project of setting up Sastay Bazaars with best facilities in the nine districts of Punjab should be started immediately so that the people could get benefit from these bazaars.
He said that the concerned administration should immediately identify proper places for setting up four model bazaars in the areas like Shahdara, Jauhara Town, Mughalpura in provincial metropolis while two each in other cities and this project should be executed under public-private partnership. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the Kot Lakhpat Vegetable Market should immediately be shifted to a proper place and shifting of fruit market of Mughalpura should also be considered.
Three bus terminals to be built: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said high quality bus terminals will be constructed at three places in Lahore i.e. Shahdarah, Ferozpur Road and Thokar Niaz Baig for facilitating commuters.
He was presiding over a meeting regarding the construction of bus terminals in Lahore on Sunday. Members of national and provincial assemblies; Malik Riaz, Afzal Khokhar, Mian Mohsin Latif, Mian Marghoob Ahmed, P&D Chairman Javed Aslam, Transport Secretary, Commissioner and DCO Lahore among others attended the meeting.
CM said the Ring Road’s construction has eased commuters arriving Lahore as well as people traveling inside the city but inter-city transport problems still existed. He said he had directed to shift the Badami Bagh bus stand and the work was in progress and had ordered to ensure provision of better facilities to the passengers till the shifting of Badami Bagh bus stand. He said the proposed bus terminals should be constructed keeping in view the future demands of passengers and should be constructed under public-private partnership.
P&D Chairman Javed Aslam informed that 242 kanal land at Thokar Niaz Baig and 462 kanal land at Ferozepur Road had been identified for construction of bus terminals.
The CM directed P&D chairman to visit Shahdarah along with MNA Malik Riaz and identify land for the proposed bus terminal. He said, after completing identification at Shahdarah, Ferozepur Road and Thokar Niaz Baig, work on their designs and other matters will come into play. He said no shortage will be allowed in provision of funds by the Punjab government for these projects.
