ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its verdict until December 6 on a plea against the composition of the bench hearing contempt of court cases against PCO judges.
The five-member larger bench of Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez, was hearing contempt of court cases against superior courts’ judges, who had taken oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) in violation of a restrain order passed by the Supreme Court on November 3, 2007.
Resuming his arguments, Dr Abdul Basit, lawyer for Justice Shabbar Raza Rizvi and Justice Hasnat Ahmed Khan, again objected to the formation of the bench hearing contempt cases against his clients.
He said an attempt was made to get Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui’s house vacated when he was deposed, and this order was related to the LHC bench of Justice Shabbar Raza Rizvi and Justice Hasnat Ahmed Khan.
Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui, however denied that the Lahore High Court had ordered the vacation of his house, adding that the court had barred the administration from any such action.
