LAHORE: Lahore High Court granted bail to a 16-year-old Muhammad Shakeel who was alleged of dissecting pages of Holy Quran, burying them, and throwing them in a drain.
Shakeel, a brother of 8 sisters, had been trapped in a bogus blasphemy case by some locals, Justice Sheikh Ahmed Farooq learnt during the hearing. Two boys in his locality, Shahid Hanif Baloch and Muhammad Ibrahim,
used to harass his sisters and even though he had warned them many times, they had not stopped, Shakeel told the court, adding “I exchanged hot words with them two times and they warned me of dire consequences.”
Later they trapped him in a fake blasphemy case by telling police that they were witnesses that Shakeel had dishonored the Holy Quran. The police had not recovered any pages as proof and 2 private channels had also aired the news.
The court then granted him a release on bail against surety bond of Rs 100,000. Justice Farooq also reprimanded Investigation Officer (IO) Abdul Sattar of Factory Area Chumgi Amer Sidhu serverely and said the police needed to handle such sensitive cases carefully.
