Javed refuses to work under Waqar

LAHORE: The appointment of former Test captain Javed Miandad as the batting and fielding consultant of the national team has sparked controversy with the PCB director general refusing to work under Waqar Younis, the chief coach.
Miandad is also not willing to accept the terms and conditions of his contract as the batting consultant. The PCB recently made an offer to Miandad to take over the role of batting and fielding consultant of the national team for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
However in the offer letter the board made it clear to Miandad, who is also the director general PCB, that he would work under the supervision of head coach Waqar Younis. It has been learnt that Miandad has been informed that he would be answerable to Waqar and will have to share ideas and concepts with him and subsequently get his approval.
Javed has also been told that he will be having no role at all in the selection of teams. An official of the board said that given his seniority (124 Tests) and position in the board, Miandad was obviously not willing to accept the terms and conditions offered by the board.
According to reports, Miandad sent a letter to the board on Tuesday making it clear that he was only answerable to the Chairman PCB and no one else. When contacted, the former captain said he was not available to accompany the team to New Zealand because of his commitments.
“I can’t do full time coaching but I am available to help the players when the training camp begins in Lahore next week,” he said. He declined to comment on the offer made to him by the board and its terms and conditions. Sources had also confirmed that Pakistan manager, Intikhab Alam, was also not very keen to have Miandad as part of the coaching staff on tour.
