Asma opposes CJP’s autocratic authority to nominate judges

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) should not be the only one to recommend names to the Judicial Commission, Supreme Court Bar Association President Asma Jahangir said while addressing the Islamabad Bar Association on Tuesday.
Two senior judges and the Judicial Commission should also have the authority to recommend names, she said, adding that if a member’s relative is competent enough and their name is recommended, that member should voluntarily resign.
“A proper method should be adopted for issuing suo motu notices,” she said, adding that there was no need to listen to suo moto cases daily.
