KARACHI: Following the lead of Sindhi language television channels, Sindh government, Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM), Sindhi nationalists’ parties, NGOs and common citizens of Sindh, and now the USA have all supported the ‘Sindhi Topi Day’ celebrations on December 4.
US Consular General in Karachi William Martin hosted a tea party on Saturday at his residence for the journalists of Sindhi newspapers and television channels to express his support for the ‘Sindhi Topi Day’. Martin extended warm wishes to the people of Sindh on behalf of his family and all the employees of US Consulate.
“We are very pleased to honor the rich history and proud tradition of Sindh, a land of poets and saints. After being appointed in Karachi, I understood why the hospitality of people of Sindh is famous all around the world. I want to thank the people of Sindh for being warm and welcoming,” said Martin.
He was wearing a red-color Sindhi Topi and had also wrapped Ajrak, the symbol of the Sindhi culture, around his shoulders. “I support this great cultural day, which is being celebrated by Sindhis…and I wish them peace and prosperity,” he said.
He said that the flood victims were in his thought and prayers and his country would stand by them during this trial. He wished the guests in Sindhi and expressed the desire to visit Mohejo Daro and the shrines in Sindh.
