LAHORE: Newly-appointed PTF President Syed Kaleem Imam accorded a warm farewell to Pakistan’s junior tennis star Samir Iftikhar before his departure for the high profile training camp in Thailand.
Current men’s and boys national champion Samir along with his coach and father, former Davis Cupper, Khawaja Iftikhar, left for Bangkok to participate in the Elite High Performance Evaluation Camp organised by the Asian Tennis Federation in conjunction with International Tennis Federation.
Samir will be among the top Asian junior players from China, Taipei, Korea, India, Indoasia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Samir, 18, is the second junior player from Pakistan to have the privilege of taking part in this elite camp after his cousin Aisamul Haq participated in the same camp in 1998.
The ATF is bearing all the expenses of Samir’s lodging and boarding. His coach while talking to Pakistan Today, said: “It is a big honour for Samir to be considered for this high performance camp supervised by top international coaches where latest coaching techniques will be used and will groom him for Davis Cup and the tough men’s ATP Circuit which he plan to start in January.
