Township police yet to apprehend triple murder accused

LAHORE: Despite serious instructions of Lahore High Court (LHC), Township Police have been able to arrest those involved in the killing of three young men during a marriage ceremony on Oct 24, Pakistan Today learnt on Friday.
Investigation Police Township have only managed to arrest on of the nominated accused, whom was not a direct party to the incident. Eyewitnesses claim that on Oct 24, at the mehndi ceremony of Yousaf, Yousaf’s close friend Malik Azam Khokher, brother of ex-nazim Shaukat Khokhar, was over drunk.
During the mehdi, Malik Azam took opened aerial fire. The bullets from his gun hit three youngsters (Hassan, Shahzad and Osama). The three were pronounced dead at Jinnah Hospital. Azam managed to escape. Township Police registered a case against five accused including three nominated accused namely Azam, Shaukat and Yousaf alias Vickey (the groom) on the complaint of deceased Hassan’s father 24 hrs after the mishap.
The LHC took suo moto notice and ordered Investigation Police to take arrest the nominated accused. Sources claim that Yousaf alias Vicky was arrested and presented before the courts to save the police’s skin. On the day of the incident, Station House Officer Kamran Zaman had claimed to media the incident was only an accident and no action could be taken over accidental firing.
The SHO and Incharge Investigation Danish are in contact with Shaukat and trying to declare the mishap an accident, sources claimed. Superintendent of Township Investigation Police Ahmed Nawaz Cheema denied his subordinates were trying to save Shaukat and his brother Azam.
The SP claimed they had conducted several raids on Shaukat and Azam hideouts but they escape.” He claimed police had raided relatives to build build pressure and the accused’s lawyer had appeared before the courts couple of days ago and promised compliance. While the accused are free, police are trying their best, he said.
