ISLAMABAD: Former president Pervez Musharraf said on Friday former ISI head Hamid Gul was against former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and he might have been involved in her assassination plot.
In an interview with a private channel, Musharraf said in a letter written to him by Benazir, she suspected that she had a life threat from Pervaiz Elahi, Ijaz Shah and Hamid Gul.
“I don’t suspect Ijaz Shah and Pervaiz Elahi to be involved such a crime as they are respectable people. However, as far as Hamid Gul is concerned, he may have used his former intelligence contacts, which I’m not sure about.” Musharraf said Mir Zafarullah Jamali was an incompetent prime minister which eventually led to his ouster.
The former president said Jamali’s performance was zero that was why he was removed from office, and “the idea to put his [Musharraf’s] name on a rupee bill never came to my mind”.
