Bihari Qaumi Movement chief killed in Karachi

KARACHI: Aftab Malik, founder and chief of the Bihari Qaumi Movement (BQM), was shot dead on Friday in the jurisdiction of Pakistan Bazaar police station in Orangi Town, Karachi, police said.
An official of Pakistan Bazaar police station said that unidentified, armed assailants opened indiscriminate fire on Malik near his house in Orangi Town. As a result, Aftab and two other passers-by received bullets wounds.
The three people were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital where doctors pronounced Aftab dead. The other two injured in the attack were identified as Ayub and Kaleem. Soon after the incident, heavy aerial firing in different parts of Orangi spread panic and forced the shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.
Heavy contingents of police and Pakistan Rangers’ personnel were rushed to the scene who cordoned off the area soon after.
