R&B superstar Usher is at the centre of a plagiarism lawsuit amid allegations his song ‘Caught Up’ was stolen from material written by an aspiring singer. Wadena Pyatt claims she landed a record contract with Alicia Keys’ MBK Entertainment label in 2003 and penned the track for inclusion on her debut album.
But according to the legal documents filed in New York, Pyatt was left dumbfounded when she discovered Usher had used it for his hit album ‘Confessions’ and she was not listed as one of the songwriters. Instead, the disc states ‘Caught Up’ was the work of Ryan Toby, Andre Harris, Vidal Davis and Jason Boyd. The song was released as a single in 2004. Pyatt is demanding damages for profits received from sales of the tune.
