ISLAMABAD: Textile exports from the country surged by 23.65 percent during the first four months of the current fiscal year against the corresponding period last year. Textile exports were recorded at $4.107 billion during July-October (2010-11) compared to exports of $3.321 billion during July-October (2009-10), according to data provided by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The textile product categories that indicated positive growth during the period under review included cotton yarn and cotton cloth, exports of which increased by 7.71 percent and 26.57 percent respectively.
On a similar note, yarn exports (other than cotton yarn) rose by 24.95 percent, knitwear by 21.39 percent, bed wear by 14.78 percent, towels by 13.64 percent, readymade garments by 38.41 percent and synthetic textile by 100 percent, processed articles (excluding towels) by 28.28 percent, while the exports of other textile products jumped by 88.52 percent during the period.
On the other hand, the textile products witnessed negative growth in exports included raw cotton, exports of which decreased by 11.44 percent.
Exports of cotton carded or combed decreased by 96.98 percent while exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin dipped by 53 percent, the figures revealed.
The textile exports during October 2010 registered a positive growth of 31.55 percent and 26.2 percent compared to October 2009 and September 2010 respectively, the data revealed. Exports during October 2010 were recorded at $1.189 billion against the exports of $ 904.088 million in October 2009 and $942.368 million in September 2010.
