ISLAMABAD: Army chief Gen Ashfaq Kayani on Tuesday ordered a high-level inquiry into alleged irregularities in the National Logistic Cell (NLC).
“A serving corps commander has been nominated to head the inquiry along with two major generals as members. Appropriate action will be taken on the completion of the inquiry, per relevant army rules and regulations,” an ISPR statement said.
In a recently held meeting, the Public Accounts Committee pointed out massive embezzlement in the NLC’s accounts, including joint venture with Japan Power Generation Limited (JPGL) and duty-free import of seven luxury jeeps on fake documents.
The meeting was told that in a particular case, the loan agreement of Rs 75 million was executed between the NLC and Japan Power without any guarantee. The meeting was told that under any government rules and regulations, no authority had been delegated to the NLC DG for sanctioning loan to any joint venture or outside agency.
