KARACHI: In order to enlist help in carrying out raids to curb the illegal selling of Dreambox across the country, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulator Authority (PEMRA) has written letters to Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Dream box and revolving dish are equipments smuggled from India which allow free ‘Direct to Home’ (DTH) access to all the channels in the world.
“A complaint was filed by Cable Operators Assocation of Pakistan (CAP) regarding Dreamboxes,” Chairman PEMRA Mushtaq Malik said while talking to Pakistan Today, adding that joint teams of PEMRA, FIA and FBR teams will conduct raids to eradicate the sale and usage of the equipments.
President CAP Khalid Arrain confirmed having sent the letter to PEMRA and said illegal Indian channels were being accessed through these devices, adding that CAP had been assured that a strong action would be taken.
Lahore is one of the biggest markets for these products, which cost Rs 9,000 only.
Dreamboxes are not only banned but also affect the business of local cable operators who run only 90 channels compared to 120 made available by these devices.
