ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan will consider deepening their cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking in Islamabad on November 24 and 25.
The ministers and senior officials of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan will discuss deepening their cooperation in their fight against drug trafficking in a series of meetings under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The Minister of Counter Narcotics of Afghanistan Zarar Ahmad Moqbel Osmani, the Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters of Iran Eng Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Arbab Muhammad Zahir and the Executive Director of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yury Fedotov will participate in the meeting.
The agenda of the meeting includes enhancing the work of the first regional law enforcement operations centre.
The meeting will focus on organizing joint operations to stop the flow of illicit drugs. Six joint operations have taken place so for that has led to significant drug seizures and arrests of at least 74 drug traffickers.
The expanding and strengthening of border controls between the three states will also come under discussion.
The countries have started to open a network of border liaison offices to increase cross-border cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
The triangular initiative is facilitated by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The three countries focus at finding solutions to the threats posed by drug trafficking in the region by enhancing cooperation in law enforcement. United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime provides assistance to the three countries in implementing their agreements.
