KARACHI: In light of the recent terrorist attack on the Crime Investigation Department (CID) office, the provincial assembly speaker has called a high-level meeting at the Sindh Assembly Secretariat today to review security arrangements for the assembly premises, Pakistan Today has learnt.
After the devastating bombing of the CID headquarters that left at least 17 people dead, security at all government installations including the assembly premises had been put on high alert. According to sources, Nisar Khuhro called the meeting out of fear of another terrorist attack on a government installation.
The meeting would be attended by Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Senior Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haque, Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Salahuddin Babar Khattak, the Karachi capital city police officer, along with the officials of various intelligence agencies.
The speaker would chair the important meeting scheduled for an 11am start, they added. The sources said the meeting would review the security situation in and around the premises of the provincial legislature, besides discussing possible precautionary measures to be taken immediately.
Although Sindh was serious towards improving the security of government buildings, the Pakistan People’s Party-led government was haunted by the huge amount of funds required for executing its security plans.
“To address the financing problem, the speaker has called the finance minister to the meeting… he might be asked to arrange funds,” the sources added.
