Gold-laden stars return home

LAHORE: The victorious Pakistan women cricket team members returned home to a rousing welcome at the Allama Iqbal International Airport on Sunday Morning.
Amidst showers of rose petals, Pakistani captain Sana Mir along with her team members were warmly received by Pakistan Cricket Board’s women wing chairperson Bushra Aitzaz accompanied by excited officials, family members and various fans.
Pakistan women team beat Bangladesh in the final by 10 wickets to win the Asian Games cricket title. Speaking on the occasion captain Sana Mir said: “We are happy on winning a gold medal for the country but we can’t express our feelings on the way the people have welcomed us. “It is something out of this world for us,” she added.
She further said that they had worked very hard and even if India or Sri Lanka were competing, the result would have been the same. Though India and Sri Lanka’s presence would have made the event more charming to win. Sana also praised the PCB for its support throughout their training. “It would not have been possible without the support of the PCB,” she added.
Pakistani captain also urged the parents to support and allow their daughters into the sporting arena.
She said that they have proved that they are not behind their male fellows and maintained to keep up the hard work. Chairperson Bushra said that the women cricket team should be treated on the same footings to the men’s team and same kind of rewards should be awarded for their laurels.
She added that if the men’s cricket team had achieved a success of this grandeur, it would have been showered with great rewards but in spite of a remarkable achievement by her team no prizes have been announced up till now.
It is the first gold medal for Pakistan in the Asian Games after boxer Mehrullah Lassi’s won the same in the 2002 edition.
