LWMC and CDGL slog their guts out

LAHORE: Staff of the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) worked tirelessly during Eidul Azha in order to look after the cleanliness of Lahore, as people were busy sacrificing animals.
The CDGL tried its level best to keep Lahore clean and its staff was seen working around the clock during the festival. The LWMC had cancelled the Eid holidays of its staff and assigned duties to them for keeping the city clean. Various teams were formed to keep the city canal clean during the festival. Photographer Nadeem Ijaz said, “The measures taken by the local government were satisfactory this time and LWMC employees were visible working on all the three days of Eid.”
Talking to Pakistan Today, LWMC Managing Director Waseem Ajmal said that door-to-door collection of waste material continued on the third day of Eid. He said that the company staff collected 5,000 metric tonnes of waste material usually but more than 13,000 metric tonnes of waste material were collected during the three days of Eid, which showed the LWMC’s good performance.
Ajmal said that various union councils were provided pick-up trucks with containers and lifters for collecting and disposing off the wastage of sacrificial animals. The LWMC MD said that the CDGL with the help of 10,000 dedicated workers performed its duties effectively during Eid. He said that 900 calls were received by the company for cleaning up different areas of the city. Ajmal said that the company had suspended 19 workers for not performing up to the mark.
