TORONTO: After a bunch of people raised slogans against him the other day, former president Pervez Musharraf said he would have asked his party workers to ‘beat up’ the demonstrators had he not been afraid of Canada’s law. Musharraf made these comments while addressing a convention of his party, the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), in Toronto.
According to media reports, he claimed that Osama bin Laden had provided the funds that allowed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif to take part in elections, adding that PML-Quaid leaders Chaudhry Shujaat and Pervaiz Elahi were issuing statements in ‘frustration’.
The former president said that the statement of US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke proved that he (Musharraf) did not take orders from America. However, when questioned as to whether Dr Imran Farooq was joining the APML, he refrained from issuing any comment.
