The Punjab Government has launched 4-year bachelors degree program in many colleges, 26 to be exact, from this year in various districts of the province. The program is a welcome change as it would bring new and fresh air to the dying and choked system of education in our colleges. But the system has been implemented without any survey or without even laying the basic foundations.
There are no teachers, no labs, no advanced courses, no curriculum, no syllabi defined no proper strength of students. Indeed, one report puts it this way that less than 10,000 students have enrolled in this program which means that the students have not been informed and advocated about the merits of the system.
This new education system would qualify our bachelor or graduation degree equal to the international standard which requires a 4-year degree whereas in Pakistan it was of two years.
This created many hurdles for the students when they wanted to get admission in the foreign colleges and universities. But, now that they have a chance to rectify this misstep, the government should provide necessary equipment, faculty, training, and proper syllabi rather than wasting any more time.
