LAHORE: Beleaguered wicketkeeper, Zulqarnain Haider, has gone penniless and has been forced to move into a friend’s home in Manchester. Haider landed in London with only £900 in pocket and stayed at a hotel near the London Airport for a couple of days before forcefully shifting to Manchester.
Sources close to Haider said that he did not have enough money left to enjoy the luxurious hotel life.
Last week he was offered a job by a Kent-based cricket club but he has not yet decided to accept the offer, while the question of his return to Pakistan remains a question as well. Things are not that simple any more for Haider as he needs British government’s permission to play for that club, if he accepts the offer.
His close friends said that he is not in a position to call his wife and children to UK. The PCB chairman contacted him last week and assured full support but no action has yet been taken by the PCB to address this grave issue.
Haider was also approached by the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU). Haider fled the Pakistan team hotel on the final day of Pakistan’s ODI series against South Africa after he received death threats to under-perform in the crucial match-up.
