ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general to arrest the main culprits in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam, including NICL Chairman Ayaz Khan and Mohsin Warriach.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was conducting suo motu hearing on a case regarding the alleged violation of rules by the NICL chairman in the procurement of land, which caused huge losses to the national exchequer. FIA said it had placed Khan’s name on the Exit-Control List (ECL) and search operations were underway for his arrest.
After hearing the arguments, Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said that the court would not tolerate if the NICL chairman and Warraich were not arrested immediately.
The FIA DG informed the court that Habibullah Warraich had been arrested and Interpol had issued a red warrant for the arrest of his son, Mohsin Warraich, who would also be arrested soon. The Supreme Court later adjourned the proceedings for three weeks.
