ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan on Monday said the Islamabad High Court (IHC) would start functioning on December 13.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Islamabad High Court, he said all the provinces and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) would have their representation in the IHC.
He said a notification for the establishment of the IHC had already been issued and it had been decided that the four provinces and FATA would be given representation in the IHC.
He said the first judge in the IHC would be appointed from FATA and added all the federal units are equal, thus none of it should be considered superior to others.
To a question, he said the IHC would consist of seven judges and a chief justice. He said the Judicial Commission for appointment of superior courts held two successful meetings in a congenial atmosphere. Similarly, he said, nothing would happen when the parliamentary committee for appointment of judges met.
To a query, he said the eight-member Parliamentary Committee will be functional after the Eid holidays.
He said PPP has established the second high court in the country during its tenure which indicates its sincerity and seriousness in provision of speedy justice to the masses.
He said the government believes in the rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution in the country. He said provision of speedy justice was and would remain the top priority of the government.
He said PPP had a history of giving jobs to the people but its leaders faced imprisonments. He claimed the government attached importance to its writ in any part of the country.
