ISLAMABAD: PML-Q MNA Marvi Memon will table a privilege motion today (Monday) in the National Assembly Secretariat against Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar for misleading the House by giving wrong figures on the PIA losses.
“A report published by daily Pakistan Today on Saturday has reflected that the minister submitted false figures in his written reply to a question raised by MNA Sheikh Salahuddin about the PIA losses from during the first nine months from January to September 2010.
I think the defence minister has breached the privilege of the entire House by giving fudged figures on the PIA losses. The speaker is requested to take this motion as soon as possible,” the privilege motion said.
Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar on Friday told the National Assembly Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC) suffered total losses of Rs 10.9 million during the first nine months of the current year while the third financial quarter report of the PIAC said the losses for this period were Rs 11.7 billion.
The PIAC report available on the PIAC website contradicts the defence minister’s claim, stating the corporation’s losses increased from Rs 0.92 billion to Rs 11.7 billion during the first nine months of the current year.
