ANP leader Haji Jeelani laid to rest in Chaman

QUETTA: Haji Jeelani Khan, tribal elder and central leader of the Awami National Party, who died after being injured in an armed attack, was buried in the border town of Chaman on Sunday amidst a large gathering of people from different sections of society.
Jeelani, the ANP joint secretary and head of his clan Asheyzai of the Achakzai tribe, was critically wounded when unidentified, armed militants opened indiscriminate fire at his vehicle when he was on his way home from the main town on Thursday (November 11).
He succumbed to injuries in a hospital in Quetta after two days on Saturday (November 13).Jeelani’s funeral prayer was offered in his ancestral village of Murda Karaiz in the outskirts of Chaman and was laid to rest amidst thousands of people from all walks of life including political leaders and tribal elders.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who was a close friend of the late ANP leader, called his son Asghar Achakzai after the funeral and passed her condolences.
