LAHORE: The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) on Friday fixed the wholesale and retail prices of sugar at Rs 69 and Rs 72 per kilogramme, respectively.
Lahore DCO Ahad Khan Cheema issued a notification warning violators of stern measures, including three years imprisonment. The DCO said the district government had formed special monitoring teams headed by magistrates to ensure that dealers and retailers sold sugar at the prescribed prices.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Lahore Sugar Dealers Association President Asghar Butt said it was a welcoming move, adding that hoarders and profiteers had already made huge profits during the prevailing sugar crisis.
However, a dealer from Akbari Mandi expressed grievance on this decision, saying if the government wanted to control sugar’s price, it should ensure early transportation of imported sugar from the Trading Corporation of Pakistan stocks.
FIA given task to check hoarding
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Milk on Friday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action against sugar hoarders and submit a report by November 15.
He was chairing a meeting that was attended by Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman, FIA DG Waseem Ahmad, Trading Corporation of Pakistan representatives, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Mehmood Pirzada and Capital IGP Kaleem Imam.
He asked the FIA director to take effective measures to bring down the soaring sugar prices and contact all provincial chief secretaries to inquire about the situation of sugar supply.
