Bhotani says locals will resist land allotment to Arabs

QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhotani said that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was influencing the Balochistan government in the allotment of land along the coastal highway to Arabs and warned that Balochis would resist if they were deprived of their land.
Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club, Bhotani said that the previous government had allotted 70,000 acres along the coastal highway of Balochistan to a federal institution, which angered local people and so the government had to revoke the agreement.
Bhotani said that once again 70,000 acres near the coastal highway were being allotted to Arabs, for which the Revenue Department made a summary overnight and dispatched it to the Balochistan chief minister for approval. He said that people were exasperated at the allotment proposal because they were living there for centuries and would not permit anyone to evict them from their land.
He said the people of Balochistan conveyed their reservations to the provincial and federal governments and he hoped that the chief minister would not pass their land to the foreigners. He also demanded that the prime minister review his decision and drop the plan to allot the land to any foreigners.
