KARACHI: A powerful blast at the CID Civil Lines building on Thursday damaged the Sindh Chief Minister’s House and other buildings including the city’s major hotels situated in the area.
According to the spokesman for the Chief Minister’s House, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah was present at his residence at the time of the blast. “It was a strong blast and it damaged the windowpanes and vases inside the Chief Minister’s House,” the spokesman said.
“Initially we thought that a blast has occurred at the Chief Minister’s House,” an employee said. Meanwhile, the chief minister condemned the terrorist attack and sought a report on the incident from the Sindh inspector general of police and the city police chief.
He also directed them to take urgent steps to maintain law and order in the city. According to the Chief Minister’s House spokesman, the government will soon announce compensation for the heirs of the blast victims and the injured.
“This is probably the most powerful blast that has taken place so far in the city,” Citizens-Police Liaison Committee chief Ahmed Chinoy told Pakistan Today.
