Jamali leaves Raiwind disappointed

LAHORE: As PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif remained unmoved despite repeated promptings for the ever-elusive unification, Muttahida Muslim League (MML) convener Mir Zafarullah Jamali reportedly left Raiwind empty-handed on Thursday.
Nawaz rejected being be part of any unity that was being sought to grab power during the meeting with Jamali. The MML leader looked upset and humiliated over the treatment as he was expecting a ‘high-profile meeting’, which remained starless as none of the top leadership from the PML-N showed up.
Trusting his eloquence and convincing power, the MML representative made a formal request to Nawaz to join the MML and spared no effort to make him realise how important his nod to the unity of the Pakistan Muslim League was. An insider said Jamali also offered him to be the boss of the MML as everyone was ready to give him the top slot.
However, he said, a possible headway broke down on the way when Jamali could not assure Nawaz about exclusion of the Chaudhrys in the unification. The insider said the though results remained negative, Jamali managed to convince Nawaz to not announce his decision of not being a part of the merger immediately.
A senior PML told Pakistan Today that the meeting was a non-starter and had no value in the eyes of Nawaz. However, he had to meet Jamail in courtesy. During the meeting, Jamali informed Nawaz about the latest developments and efforts for the unification and his meeting with the PML-Q head Shujaat Hussain.
Nawaz refused to join any alliance which he believed was to be used as a step to gain power and protect personal interests. He called such efforts futile, saying it would not be in the favour of the country. After the meeting, Jamali, flanked by Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa held a press conference.
