ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday asked the provincial governments to take stern action against sugar hoarders, warning of the federal government’s intervention in case they failed.
Talking to reporters, Gilani said, “Interior Minister Rehman Malik has been asked to wait and let the provinces manage the issue.”
He said, “There was no shortage of sugar in the country as one-month surplus stocks were available. The total requirement of the country was 300,000 metric tonnes and it has the stocks of all the sugar that has been imported.”
He said the federal government had asked the provinces to start the crushing season.
