LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaquat Baloch has called upon the federal government to protest against the cancellation of British visa to former Jamaat chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed and other (Jamaat) leaders of the country.
In a letter to Foreign Affairs Minister Shah Mehmud Qureshi, he said that Qazi Hussain Ahmed had to visit Britain on the invitation of the UK Islamic Mission to attend various events. The British High Commission in Islamabad had issued a five-year visa to Qazi Husain on October 7 which was cancelled the next day, he said.
Baloch said Qazi Husain had been a member of the parliament for 17 years and rendered valuable services for the country. He said the visa cancellation was a part of a campaign by the ‘anti-Islam’ and ‘anti-Pakistan’ lobbies in the British government. He stressed the rulers to counter such propaganda and stress upon the British authorities to withdraw the visa cancellation orders.
OFF SETTING THE US’S INFLUENCE: JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan has deemed US-India collusion a serious threat to Pakistan’s solidarity. Addressing the concluding session of the two day JI Media Secretaries workshop at Mansoora, he said US and NATO’s withdrawal from the region alone could safeguard the interests of this country. He said US President Obama’s visit to India had proved that India was US’ ‘real partner’.
He deplored that Pakistan’s foreign office had made no planning to offset the damage expected of Obama’s India visit. The US, he said, was now assigning an import role to India in Afghanistan, although in the past India never had any role in that country. He stressed upon the government to review its policy towards the US, which he said, had always played ‘fraud’ with this country and sided with enemies. He proposed that Islamabad should join hands with its friendly countries like China and Iran to ‘check’ India’s advance and for ousting the US from the region.
