APML rejects Shujaat’s statement on Lal Masjid

LAHORE: Spokesman of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), Fawad Chaudhry, on Tuesday rejected a statement by PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain regarding the Lal Masjid operation, claiming that Shujaat and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi were fully aware of the offensive.
Reacting to Shujaat’s statement, Fawad claimed that all PML-Q governments in all four federating units, as well as the federal government knew about the Lal Masjid operation. He said Shujaat and Elahi were part of several meetings held to review the Lal Masjid situation,
adding that the Punjab Police and the Elite Police Force along with the Special Services Group took part in the operation and the PML-Q chief could not deny the fact. Fawad said all politicians among the ranks of PML-Q or its splinter groups,
who now leave no opportunity to criticise Pervez Musharraf, were part and parcel of the former president’s government and knew about all major developments of the time. He also said Shujaat, Ijazul Haq and other leaders in Musharraf’s government should have resigned if they were against the policies and actions of the former president.
The APML spokesman said that the aforementioned politicians enjoyed power for five years and they were now disassociating themselves from the actions of the previous government.
