KARACHI: On the directive of President Asif Ali Zardari, a new provincial department for rehabilitation of flood victims has been established with Muzaffar Shujra as its first minister while it has also been decided to post Syed Asad Ali Shah as the Sindh Bank president.
President Zardari during his meeting with the Sindh government high-ups has issued directives that for a speedy rehabilitation of flood victims in the province, a separate department would be established. And within three days of his directive, the Sindh government issued a notification of setting up a separate department for the rehabilitation of flood victims and Muzaffar Shujra has been appointed its first minister.
“It’s a new responsibility and we will do our best for the rehabilitation of flood affecttees. I am happy that I have got portfolio of my interest, as I always wanted to work for the poor people as per the manifesto of PPP, Minister for Rehabilitation Muzzafar Shujra told the Pakistan Today on Sunday.
Previously, Shujra was the minister for jails but last month his portfolio was taken back by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and given to Dr Zulfiqar Mirza as his additional responsibility. Since then Shujra had been without any portfolio.

He has been working as a consultant for establishing Sindh Bank, sources said, adding that a summary for final orders has been sent to the Sindh CM.
Last week the first meeting of the Board of Directors (BoD) of Sindh Bank was held under the chairmanship of Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha, acting chief secretary Sindh, who is also the chairman of the bank’s BoD. Ghulam Ali Pasha told the meeting that the bank was being set up on the desire of the President of Pakistan. He further stated that the bank would open 50 branches in the country by the end of 2011, with one branch in every district of Sindh and one each in every province of the country.
