1,381 killed during 10 months in Karachi

KARACHI: Over 1381 people, including political activists, have been killed during ten months this year in Karachi, challenging the tall claims of Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and testing the performance of the law enforcement agencies.
Most of the criminals arrested were released because of political pressure, officials from the Police Department asking not to be named told Pakistan Today. Statistics collected by Pakistan Today revealed that from amongst those killed 334 were political activists, of which 43 belonged to the Mutahida Qaumi Movement(MQM)-H, 44 to the MQM, 46 to the Awami National Party , 17 to the Pakistan People’s Party , 7 to the Jamat-e-Islami, 14 to the Ahl-e-Sunnat-wa-aljamat, 5 to the Punjabi Pakhtoon Itehad, 6 Sunni Tehreek while Peoples Aman Committee and Jash-e-Muhammad lost their two activists each.
About 35 government employees, including 21 belonging to Sindh Police, 2 to Pakistan Rangers were also gunned down. Seven doctors were also targeted and the Home department, Tourism department and Anti encroachment department also lost one employee each. (Figure by Tajwar Awan)
